About

Ok so here is what we do…
THE URBAN RUN CLUB is a physically active community located in your town. Yes we are a national project, but only with you doing your part. The concept is a social network where you, your neighbors, your co-workers, family members, or anyone else can inspire each other to get off the sofa and exercise where no one gets left behind. Yes it is named a run club, however Urban Run Club is much more than a running group. Urban Run Club supports most every activity that will get you up and moving. These groups of people can be two or more people who choose to be more active and inspire someone else to join them. Our social network on the urbanrunclub.com site is a place to share experiences and connect with others who share the same personal goal of being healthy.

Our goals are…
The main goal of the Urban Run Club is to promote a healthy lifestyle through exercise. So many times people look for any excuse in the book to not get up and go outside to become more active. 93 million Americans are clinically obese, 34% of Americans. Right now as a human race we are more obese than ever, besides overeating, little to no physical activity plagues us like a terminal illness.
The URBAN RUN CLUB MEMBERS are groups of people who have made a decision to change the way they live. They will not have to invest hundreds of dollars into a gym as approximately 45 million Americans do, nor boot camp, or any other financial binding sport. There is no cost for members to join THE URBAN RUN CLUB. The use of urbanrunclub.com and other social networks can provide a place for each city to have their own groups and announce all events to a large number of their members via the internet. Each member can request a technical material t-shirt to wear to promote the Urban run Club. The (optional $25) green technical t-shirt is advertising for the Urban Run Club. The green represents urban renewal thru health and community responsibility by being an active example in the neighborhood. This will give members a easy way to spread the word, be inspired and inspire others while collecting supportive partners to encourage a more responsible lifestyle.

Here is how we make it happen…
No one is left behind. The running and walking groups are comprised of all fitness levels. In 2009 the original group consisted of ultra runners, slower paced runners, run /walkers, walkers, children, dogs, cyclist and from time to time strollers. The rhythm is paced by a lead runner and a sweep walker who maintain contact and keep all levels together so that no one gets lost or left. The faster runners circle back to support those who have fallen back the the rear position of the group. These two key runners make sure the group remains in tact. The faster runners circle back at designated stopping points to collect the slower walkers and runners and the mid group can choose to support the lagging runners or rest. During the 12 month trial for the development of the URBAN RUN CLUB, the group grew from 3 members (friends committed to changing their own lives) to a online network of over 650+ members, by using Facebook growing on to urbanrunclub.com as a medium, with a weekly average of 50 runners during peak weather months and 15-35 during cold or rainy. This was with no advertisement and only news coverage as PR. In the earlier days of the what was then the Tuesday NIght Urban Run Club, the group met once a week. The runners would share why they were out to run. The responses ranged from “just wanted to get in shape” ,”training for a race”, “better health”, and a host of other personal goals. The administrators also encouraged the runners to sign up for races, volunteer for races, or let the group know they were racing so other group members could support from the side lines, and in most cases the supporters and volunteers soon became runners.
Since the beginning of the Urban Run Club the initial running term has become get up off the sofa and get yourself outside to play. Be active.
The Urban Run Club inspires people to live healthier lives through exercise. It is called the run club where no one is left behind. We support anything that involves physical activity. Running, walking, hiking, bike riding, water sports, camping, and nearly any other sport you can think of.

Hi Indra,
Bruce Morton asked me to check out your website. I’m president of the Metro Atlanta Cycling Club and I can see we share some common goals. I look forward to our clubs getting together and mixing up some running and cycling.
